Berufsmatura and Language Proficiency Tests in Liechtenstein
Matura is taken after the completion of secondary education in order to gain admittance into higher education institutions in Liechtenstein. The examination consists of a written and oral part. The Berufsmatura examination can be taken individually in each subject.
The written exam is taken in English, French, or German, Mathematics, and a subject related to the students’ specialisation. This test takes 4 lessons of 60 minutes.
Oral examinations are taken in Religious education, German, mathematics, English, Spanish, French, or Latin, philosophy, chemistry, economics, biology, ethics, history, law, geography, and a subject selected by the student. The oral examinations are held in the same examination session as the written tests.
The duration of this examination is 15 minutes. The main subjects are checked by two teachers for 20 minutes.
Certificate: Upon successful completion of the examination, candidates receive a Berufsmatura certificate that allows them to enter the university level in Liechtenstein.
English Language Proficiency Tests
Prospective students whose first language is not English must demonstrate their English language skills by submitting the scorecard of either of the tests-
FCE (First Certificate in English):
exam is an internationally recognised English language examination offered by Cambridge English language assessment. This exam tests the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of the candidates.
The TOEFL iBT
is a standardized test that evaluates the candidates’ ability to understand and use English at the higher education level. TOEFL iBT score of 82 is required for admittance into Liechtenstein higher education institutions.
The Test of English for International Communication
tests the English language skills in an international setting. The questions are based on the real-life work environment. Score of at least 750 in listening and reading section and a score of at least 300 in speaking and writing section is accepted.
German Language Proficiency Tests
The official language in Liechtenstein is German. Students who wish to study in Liechtenstein must demonstrate their command in the language.
are accepted in Liechtenstein. The Goethe-Institut's German language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at the highest level.
